Abstract

The Pingree Family Genealogy contains records collected by members of the Pingree family related to their attempts to document the Pingree family history and the family histories of the related Kimball, Knight, and Wheatland families. Some material is related to the lives of the Pingree business associates, Hosea B. Buck and E.S. Coe. The collection has been divided into two series.

The Provost Marshal's Office Records include correspondence, circulars, orders, enlistment papers, enrollment records, draft records, surgeon's certificates, medical reports, equipment and property returns, reports, and financial records created by the District Provost Marshal and his board of enrollment in the 5th District Massachusetts from 1863 to 1865, along with records from the Provost Marshal Office of Norfolk, Virginia.

Formerly titled, "Salem Witchcraft Papers of the Essex Institute Archives: Essex County Court of Oyer and Terminer, Salem Witchcraft Trials", the name has been changed to reflect the provenance of the documents within this collection, all documents having been given to the Phillips Libary by various families.
